an instance of a form of reasoning in which a conclusion is drawn from two given or assumed propositions (premises); a common or middle term is present in the two premises but not in the conclusion, which may be invalid (e.g. all dogs are animals; all animals have four legs; therefore all dogs have four legs ).
deductive reasoning as distinct from induction.

Originlate Middle English: via Old French or Latin from Greek sullogismos, from sullogizesthai, from sun- ‘with’ + logizesthai ‘to reason’ (from logos ‘reasoning’).

Sylogism first developed 2005 is an exploration inspired by Plato’s Allegory of the Cave interwoven with elements of contemporary cinema. The installation is designed to immerse participants in an introspective journey, to provoke profound contemplation.

Participants are seated on a bench within an apparently vacant space, each provided with an earpiece. Their shadows cast onto the wall before them. Unbeknownst to them, another figure enters the space, their presence initially imperceptible. This figure moves amongst the shadows, whispering enigmatic messages to each viewer’s silhouette, thus initiating a dialogue that transcends the physical realm.

This interactive experience fosters a delicate symbiosis between the artwork and the participants, challenging the boundaries of personal space and perception. The interplay between their own shadow, the mysterious interloper, and that of their fellow participant evokes a sense of interconnectedness and shared narrative.
